There are cases when you buy a new BlackBerry smart phone and transfer data from the old device to the new device.

But there is always a question of what to do with the old device? You may choose to give the device to your junior staff or to some other employee in a different department or to your kids or as a last resort sell it off to some total stranger.

Whatever may be the reason, the data held on the BlackBerry device must be deleted and it needs to be ascertained that the data doesn’t fall into the wrong hands.

Below are the steps through which you can wipe your BlackBerry OS 6 device:
•    Open the BlackBerry main menu and click on the Options menu. The options menu is the icon which is similar to a wrench under the default theme option.
•    Now scroll down to the security option and select the same.
•    Under the security option, select the security wipe option.
•    The security wipe option has varying number options that you can select depending upon the data you need to erase. If you want to completely remove all the data associated with your email, contacts, applications, media card, etc. the best option would be to select all the options.
•    You shall be prompted to enter the word blackberry. Do so and then click on Wipe Data.
•    You shall receive a pop-up window asking for a confirmation of the wipe. Accept it and this will initiate the wiping process.

Once done all the data that you have selected will be wiped clean from the BlackBerry device. The process will take some time depending upon the options that you have selected and the data that is present on the device, so patience is the key here.

Finally when all the data is wiped, the handset will restart and you shall receive the setup wizard to continue.
